Data Distribution - Excel / CSV - Download On Demand
Data can be distributed in a variety of ways, e.g. downloaded using a browser or as an email attachment to authorised email addresses for added security. This page includes an example of download on demand.
Data can be sent in a variety of formats, typically CSV, Tab Delimited, HTML, Excel & PDF.
When downloaded, CSV data normally loads into Excel automatically if Office is installed on the user's PC.
Alternatively native Microsoft Excel or Acrobat PDF files can be generated and downloaded if suitable additional software is installed on the web server.
Sample: Download selected CSV data from a web site database
In this example you can download a list of
formula one racing champions as a
CSV text file.
If you have Excel on your PC choose the open option to load the data into Excel directly.
The source data is stored in a web database and you can either select:
a) Champions for a range of years OR b) Champions from a particular
country.
You can save the downloaded file to your PC's hard disk & then
view the contents using word processing software like Word or WordPad
or alternatively open the file in Excel.
For an example of data distribution on demand by email, please see the
HTML email distribution page.
