Data Distribution - RSS Feed

RSS LogoRSS is an increasingly popular method of distributing information. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a set of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated information. Examples are news articles, job vacancies, blog entries & podcasts. Sites that provide updated content are more popular and tend to appear higher in search engine listings.

An RSS document, often called a "feed" or "web feed", contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to automatically be informed with updates from RSS feeds they have signed up for.

Reader Software
RSS content can be read using 'RSS reader' software. This is sometimes called a 'feed reader' or an 'aggregator'. Modern browsers like IE 7 include an RSS reader.

The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader software automatically checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds. It's much easier than going to the site, and seeing if any new information is available.

Data Creative can provide code to generate RSS feeds from your data. This can be designed so that RSS feeds are updated periodically (daily, hourly, every minute..) so that your site makes the latest information available to your users.
